Career Highlights:

"I have experience teaching health assessment, capstone and transition to practice courses. I currently work in a level II trauma emergency department and have over 20 years of experience as an emergency nurse. I hold certifications in emergency nursing."

  • In which online program(s) do you teach?

    Transition to practice and capstone

  • Why did you select a career in nursing?

Nursing is versatile. I love direct patient care, but I can do many other types of jobs as a nurse. My reason for nursing has evolved over time but I think the foundation is the same: to help people feel better.

  • In what ways do you connect with online students?

Through discussions, chat and virtual meetings on Zoom or Teams.

  • What do you want your students to take away from class?

Each course has learning outcomes. I want students to understand the "why" behind what they are learning and the "how" to implement what they learn.

  • Why did you start teaching?

I have the desire to help students see their "why".

  • What advice would you give to your online students?

Dedicate time to your courses. Ground yourself in your faith to get through this learning experience. Take opportunities to grow as a nurse, person and student during this time.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in the field in which you teach?

    Being student-centered.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    "The Shack"

  • What do you do when you need a laugh?

    Meet up with my friend.

  • Tell us a story.

Most students think I am younger than I really am. I work out 3 days a week and try to watch what I eat. They are surprised when I tell them my age.
